According to Fox News Latino, Arizona is looking to put more stringent restrictions in place that go above and beyond the current Federal regulations in place for voters. The Federal regulations only require that voters check the box saying that they’re citizens, & put the form in the mail. Arizona, however — citing examples of voter fraud — is putting forth Proposition 200, which requires additional documentation from potential voters before being allowed to vote.
Critics of the bill say that this goes above and beyond the purview of the state’s authority, and the state should not have to require more from its citizens than the Federal government does.
