Hugo Chávez, Venezuela’s president of 14 years, died today at 58 years old. Vice President Nicolás Maduro tearily confirmed that Chávez passed away at 4:25 p.m.
Chávez had been fighting cancer since 2011, and had chosen Vice President Nicolás Maduro as his heir-apparent when it became clear that health concerns might force him from office.
