At a press conference for the film, del Toro spoke extensively about the process of film-making — and, more specifically, the making of horror films such as the one he’s best known for. “The very basics for me are creating [scenarios] where the things that shouldn’t be are and the things that should be are not. You can derive every situation in a horror movie to have those elements. The rest is playing with logic and dislocating it,” he said.
When asked about the difference between horror and comedy, del Toro had a very interesting answer. “I think they are both very similar. It’s a matter of taste, so it’s hard to say what I would not do because I don’t think horror should have any limits,” he said.
