According to a U.S. geological survey, a 6.5 magnitude earthquake struck north of Puerto Rico on Monday. The quake is reported to be very shallow, with a depth of 17.7 miles underneath the seabed. It struck just after midnight on Monday morning.

Initial estimations warned that the quake could result in a small local  tsunami, however the U.S. National Weather Service Caribbean Tsunami Warning Program determined that no tsunami occurred as a result of the quake.

While the quake caused no major damage, residents reported falling items in their home and felt buildings sway in San Juan, located 61 miles from the epicenter of the quake. Puerto Rico’s emergency management agency reported no injuries.
