Pope Francis is a pope of the people. Since his reign as the head of the Roman Catholic Church began, he’s upended the stuffy and conservative image of his predecessor(s). From the choosing of the name Francis (symbolic of simplicity) to his views on gay rights and abortion, this pope has indicated that it won’t be business as usual in the Vatican so long as he is in charge.
The latest news to point to the awesomeness of this new, culturally aware pope? He used to be a bouncer in a Buenos Aires nightclub. That’s right, folks. Our pope, the holiest man on earth, was actively ingratiated in the hedonistic (or so the Church would lead us to believe) club scene in Latin America.
During a visit to San Cirillo Alessandrino church in Rome, Pope Francis shared this tidbit with his audience. While this information had been previously reported, it was the first time the pope had spoken about his former employment himself. His rehashing of his former life resulted in a social media hailstorm, which mostly illustrates what we already know: people really, really like this guy.
