Colombian superstar Shakira gave a free (!) concert to approximately 7,500 people in New York City’s Bryant Park to announce a new collaboration with cell phone provider T-Mobile (and also, to make those of us not in attendance very, very envious).
The multi-year partnership will promote Shakira’s music and future advertising campaigns while helping to raise awareness for her Pies Descalzos (Barefoot) Foundation, which provides education and food to over 6,000 children in Colombia. The foundation plans to expand into Haiti and South Africa.
“Today is all about bringing the world closer together,” Shakira said in a press release. “I’m excited to partner with T-Mobile and look forward to being able to share my music in new and innovative ways.”
T-Mobile announced the launch of its unlimited international data plan to coincide with the concert on Oct. 9. They are the fourth-largest phone carrier in the United States (and are currently boasting a whole lot of international appeal).
